Karate gradings are an exciting milestone on your journey. Gradings assess your progress, technical ability, and dedication to training, offering the opportunity to earn your next belt and demonstrate your hard work.
The club follows the UK structured grading syllabus so everyone knows what is expected of them. Each grading getting slightly more technical than the previous to ensure students are progressing with their technical ability whilst expanding their knowledge.
Gradings are held approximately every 3 to 4 months, and students are selected based on a combination of factors
• Attendance: Regular training is crucial to ensure you’ve built the skills and understanding needed
• Technical Ability: This includes your understanding of techniques, katas, and combinations appropriate for your grade
• Effort and Attitude: Commitment, focus, and respect in the dojo play a key role.
On the day, you’ll be asked to perform the techniques you’ve been practicing in class, as laid out In the Grading Syllabus. Your instructor will evaluate your performance to determine if you are ready to be promoted to the next colour belt.
Its important to note, being invited to grade doesn’t guarantee a pass, it means you have demonstrated the criteria but it’s then up to the student to perform on the day.
Gradings are an important part of your karate journey, so approach them with focus and confidence. Students that pass are entered into official records, have their licence book signed and receive an official UK certificate.
Parents are permitted to stay in to watch the grading, as it’s a good opportunity to see how your child is progressing and how they perform under pressure!
